The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) is the classic rally in which hundreds of sailboats set sail from Europe each year to cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean. The event brings together sailors from all over the world and marks the start of one of the world’s most famous ocean crossings. For participants, their families, and sailing enthusiasts worldwide, media coverage is an important part of the experience.

For ARC, NextLive produced extensive coverage featuring studio broadcasts, reports, and the live broadcast of the start from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. Through interviews with crews, reports from the marina, and ongoing studio broadcasts, we were able to follow the preparations for the long sail and give the audience a deeper insight into the people, the boats, and the adventure.

Technology Beyond the Ordinary

The highlight of the production was the live broadcast of the start, for which we used a modern remote production solution. While cameras and on-site technical equipment were in place in Gran Canaria, the entire central production was carried out from NextLive’s studio in Västerås. Video production, graphics, communication, and broadcast management were handled in real time over a distance of more than 4,000 kilometers.

Thanks to this solution, we only needed to send two people to Gran Canaria. Their task was to support the organization on site and ensure that the cameras, audio, and signals were working properly ahead of the broadcast, while the rest of the production team worked from Sweden. This resulted in significantly lower travel costs, less logistical work, and a more sustainable production setup—without compromising on quality.
